Mags for Digital Artists

Searching the mad, mad, mad world of digital arts and artists invariably leads one to in-the-know periodicals.  Digital Arts published in the United Kingdom is one that caught my imagination recently because of the cover which displayed an article title; Get Your Nerd On! After spending a Washington State University semester with the so called nerdy ones, I would happily count myself in their number.  The talent exhibited in my Multimedia Authoring class was amazing.  These young people have it!  This class will go down as one of my best rocking chair memories!

Introducing the Bluegrass Wrappers

Hey Gunionator fans; you know who you are!  Please indulge me as I roll out my first website; the Bluegrass Wrappers.  As I toiled over the vagaries of Dreamweaver and the Adobe Cloud, I often thought what it would be like to design websites for a living.  I found out that profession would be a LOT OF WORK!  In addition to that, if you're married, your spouse might beat you about the head and shoulders for staring at a computer screen for hours on end.  Have a look at: http://bgwrappers.businesscatalyst.com/

Carl DiSalvo

Carl DiSalvo is an Assistant Professor in the Digital Media Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.  He is involved in what he calls "adversarial design" and has authored a book of the same title.  As Carl has defined it, adversarial design uses digital design media to "challenge beliefs, values, and what is taken to be fact."  He often collaborates with others to explore contemporary political issues in a provocative way using robotics, video, sound, and data visualization. Infographics

In the current age of "sound-bites" and symbols, info-graphics fits the template for transmitting as much information into as little time and space as possible.  As the popular quote goes, "A picture tells a thousand words", reveals to us why these information avenues are so pervasive in today's culture.  Lots of information is conveyed in a few words combined with color graphics to form info-graphics. So grab a Big Mac and a 5-Hour Energy drink and have a look at these info-graphics authored by our government.

Light Beer is a Crime

Having been around the block a few times and having drank my share of suds, I am of the opinion that light beer should be considered a crime punishable by a fine of $1000.00 and confinement of up to one-year.  I know people that drink light beer by the truckload and think that they are saving themselves a few fat cells.  A couple of good quality beers are better, much better.  So...Una mas cervaso, as long as it's number two or three and mucho gusto!

Calling Website Builders

All you digitally minded people should take notice of the opportunities of developing and managing a website.  There are advertising dollars available to those who can devise a well thought out concept and web design.  According to Techcrunch, tens of billions were spent by advertisers on the web for those able to generate lots of pageviews :)

New Merit Badges for Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America have gone digital in their new merit badge offerings.  Not since William Jefferson Clinton was a scout has there been such a revelation of cutting edge life preparation skills.  The new badges include: Game Design (even the Gunionator could see this one coming), Digital Technology, Animation, Multi-Media, and Computer Aided Design.  When I was a scout the merit badges mostly included how to survive in the woods.  Now the scouts may be able to survive in cyberspace as well!
