Dadaism

Finally getting around to dadaism and Raoul Hausmann, I discovered that he was one of the original photomontage practitioners.  Dadaism itself was a result of artist's revulsion to the senseless slaughter of men during World War I.  Raoul was coming into his own as an artist shortly after that period and while on vacation he noticed a photo in his guestroom of a group of soldiers with other photos pasted on top of it.  Upon returning home, he started cutting out photographs from the press and cinema stills and assembling them into a montage.  Hausmann and others of that period pioneered the technique known as "Berlin Dada."
