| "Jump" |
The last few chapters of Launching the Imagination (10 - 12) has focused a lot on 3D art, design and elements thereof. Local art in Tri-Cities Washington is there if you're looking. This piece of sculpture was recently dedicated in Richland's John Dam Plaza. CJ Rench, Richland native who now resides in Hood River, Oregon, designed this piece called "Jump". In an interview with local news, CJ explained that his work was so named to honor Richland as his "jumping off" point into his life and career as an artist. CJ's work marks an interesting use of color, negative space, endurance, abstraction, and an element of time (his jump off point). The individual shapes reminded me of Hiragama or Katakana script (Japanese writing). If you'd like to see more of CJ's work go to http://cjrdesignstudio.com/. He is good!
