Aaron Douglas

Into Human Bondage
Launching the Imagination's reproduction of Aspects of Negro Life: From Slavery Through Reconstruction by Aaron Douglas caught my imagination.  Douglas' use of color, form, and shading drove me to do a little research on him.  Many of his other works used that same style Stewart calls "flat silhouettes combined with transparent targets" as shown in one of the series; Into Human Bondage .

  1. Engaging aesthetic, no? Beautiful work in my opinion. What's your take?

    1. I really like his stuff. His work using silhouettes and representation of light cutting across the figures is intriguing. This guy was creative. I wouldn't mind having one or two of his paintings hanging in my house.
