Launching the Imagination's reproduction of
Aspects of Negro Life: From Slavery Through Reconstruction by Aaron Douglas caught my imagination. Douglas' use of color, form, and shading drove me to do a little research on him. Many of his other works used that same style Stewart calls "flat silhouettes combined with transparent targets" as shown in one of the series;
Into Human Bondage .
Engaging aesthetic, no? Beautiful work in my opinion. What's your take?
ReplyDeleteI really like his stuff. His work using silhouettes and representation of light cutting across the figures is intriguing. This guy was creative. I wouldn't mind having one or two of his paintings hanging in my house.
